According to the SWIFT Innotribe press release announcing the selection of the innovative startups, over 500 judges from across the financial, technology, and investment communities evaluated the companies by assessing the startups’ ability to provide an important innovation in the future of the financial industry.

Des Moines is one of the best places to celebrate Valentine’s Day, according to the data experts at SizeUp. As reported in Business Record and the Des Moines Register, Des Moines was named the top city for florists, based on revenue per capita for cities nationwide. The Society of American Florists estimates there are about 16,000 florists in the United States. Tom Boesen, whose family operates Boesen the Florist in Des Moines, said his fourth-generation company is among the 20 or so floral shops in the nation that lists revenues of $4 million or more a year.

Leading up to Black Friday, Houston was ranked the number one city in the nation for department store revenue, as reported by the Houston Chronicle and the Houston Business Journal. The rankings were based on data provided by SizeUp. Trailing Houston were New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Chicago, and Dallas. According to the Chronicle, “With all of the malls in the Houston area, it’s not hard to see why we lead the list, with New York and Los Angeles coming in second and third to the Bayou City… Houston’s boisterous economy also lends itself to spending, and also because you cannot leave Target without spending $100 more than you planned to when you walked in the door.”
